Pride Goes  Before Destruction

We see pride everywhere.     There are political leaders  who proudly imagine  they are far above everyone  under their jurisdiction  —  so they take liberties  of every evil sort.     People  in administrative positions  might proudly push their workers around.     People with lots of money  can be tempted  to feel superior.     Even  in a neighborhood  or family situation,  there are those  who proudly bully others,  thinking they are better.

Some are bold enough  to loudly declare,  “I’m better than you are.”     And,  they really mean it.     They’ve gotten away with bullying  for so long,  they feel  they are better  than others.

But,  Proverbs 16:18  tells us,

Pride goes  before destruction,
And a haughty spirit  before stumbling.

Satan’s pride  and desire  to rule over others  is his demise.     Knowing that,  we need  to cautiously  watch over our attitudes  and feelings  about others.     We don’t want  to be tempted  to proudly imagine  that we are  better than anyone else  for any reason.     In God’s eyes,  we need to watch our every step.

Much rather,  we need  to be more like Christ Jesus,  who is LORD of lords  —  yet Philippians 2:8 says  of Him,

Being found  in appearance  as a man,  He humbled Himself  by becoming obedient  to the point  of death,  even death  on a cross.

God humbled Himself  for us.     We need  to be ashamed  of our pride.

Seeing God Almighty’s awesome humbleness,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  Your holiness is perfect  far beyond human conception.”

Margaret
