Glory

While being about  through our town,  I thought  of all the evils  taking place  in our world  at this very moment.     They make  for much sadness  and a troubled heart.     Then  I observed  all the flowers  in bloom  —  various flowering bushes and trees  —   the sunny blue sky  —  a mother mowing her lawn  with her baby  on her back  and her toddler  on his tricycle nearby  —  a happy poor man  with a toothless grin  and a cheery “Hello!”  —  and a helpful,  caring assistant  at a store.

All these things  pointed  to God’s glory.     The glory  of God’s almighty,  creative power  is in every kind  of plant  and life  on earth  —  in the wisdom  of having a sun  and atmosphere  for this earth  —  in the loving care  of that mother  —  in the obviously good heart  of a poor,  old man  —  and  in the caring attitude  of a store employee.

These were all separate  and different kinds  of glory.

Parts  of Webster’s definition  of glory include:   a great honor  and admiration won  by doing something important  or valuable  —  worshipful adoration  or praise  —  the condition of highest achievement,  splendor,  etc.  —  radiant beauty  or splendor  —  heaven  or the bliss  of heaven.

These parts  of Webster’s definition  describe  the various things  we see  every day.     There will be the troubles  of different kinds  of evils  around us  —  but there are also things  of God’s glory  that keep pointing us  to the truths  of God’s eternal power  and control  over all things.

Therefore,  we need  to apply  some biblical advice  to our every situation.     That could include:

Ascribe  to the LORD,  O families  of the peoples,
Ascribe  to the LORD  glory  and strength.     Psalm 96:7

Glory  in His holy name;
Let the heart  of those  who seek  the LORD  be glad.     Psalm 105:3

God Almighty  is the giver  of all good things  —  from flowers  to a cheery “Hello!”     Let us give thanks  for all  of His goodness  in our lives.     Resting  in thankfulness,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for showing  Your glory  all around us.”

Love,
Margaret
