A King, a Warrior, a Horse

A King,  a Warrior,  a Horse

People tend  to put their whole trust  in various worldly things  —  riches,  intelligence,  technology,  their own strength,  their influence,  and similar things.     But,  none of those things  are dependable.     They all  have great limitations.    So, Psalm 33:16-22  teaches us,

The king  is not saved  by a mighty army;
A warrior  is not delivered  by great strength.
A horse  is a false hope  for victory;
Nor does it deliver anyone  by its great strength.

Behold,  the eye  of the LORD is  on those  who fear Him,
On those  who hope  for His lovingkindness,
To deliver their soul  from death
And to keep them alive  in famine.
Our soul waits  for the LORD;
He is our help  and our shield.

For our heart rejoices  in Him,
Because we trust  in His holy name.
Let Your lovingkindness,  O LORD,  be upon us,
According as we have hoped  in You.

Many great kings  have fallen  —  many strong warriors  have been taken down  —  and brave horses  cannot be depended upon  to win a battle.     Only  “the LORD”  can be depended upon.     When depending  upon  “the LORD”,  our biggest concern should be  that He would  “deliver their soul  from death”.

If we win  every single earthly battle,  but lose our souls  for all eternity,  we haven’t gained anything.     Jesus teaches us  in Mark 8:36-37,

For  what does it profit  a man  to gain  the whole world,  and forfeit  his soul?     For what will a man give  in exchange  for his soul?

We have not really won  a battle  on earth  if we did it  with earthly strength  —  and no trust  in God.     If we don’t trust God,  we lose our souls.

Yes,  we have to use  our common sense  in our earthly battles,  but we can only win eternally  as we trust  in the LORD.     Winning earthly battles,  but losing faith  in God  is a devastating defeat.

Looking to the LORD  for our help,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for saving  our souls.”

Love,
Margaret
