When Assyria was about to overtake Israel, the people absolutely refused to listen to Isaiah’s warnings. Instead of heeding Isaiah’s warnings, the Israelites felt that he was a traitor because he was preaching the opposite of Judah’s national policies. So, in his warning for repentance, Isaiah 8:9-15 declares,
“Be broken, O peoples, and be shattered;
And give ear, all remote places of the earth.
Gird yourselves, yet be shattered;
Gird yourselves, yet be shattered.
Devise a plan, but it will be thwarted;
State a proposal, but it will not stand,
For God is with us.”
For thus the LORD spoke to me with mighty power and instructed me not to walk in the way of this people, saying,
“You are not to say, ‘It is a conspiracy!’
In regard to all that this people call a conspiracy,
And you are not to fear what they fear or be in dread of it.
It is the LORD of hosts whom you should regard as holy.
And He shall be your fear,
And He shall be your dread.
Then He shall become a sanctuary;
But to both the houses of Israel, a stone to strike and a rock to stumble over,
And a snare and a trap for the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
Many will stumble over them,
Then they will fall and be broken;
They will even be snared and caught.”
This is a dire warning to trust only in the LORD for our salvation. It is senseless to trust in our own strength or the strength of our government. Instead, we need to be repentant and change our sinful ways — “be shattered”.
All of our imaginations about what is going on in this world are useless. “It is the LORD of hosts whom you should regard as holy.” When we love and respect the LORD, He will care for us. If we don’t respect the LORD, our lack of respect makes His salvation into “a stone to strike and a rock to stumble over, and a snare and a trap”.
When we love and trust the LORD He becomes our shelter, and we say, “Hallelujah! LORD, thank You for being our sanctuary.”
A Christian devotional to glorify the LORD of lords and GOD of gods.
Pray for our country.
The LORD made this day, let us rejoice and be glad in Him.
The word of the LORD is tried;
He is a shield to all who take refuge in Him.
Sing for joy in the LORD, O you righteous ones;
Praise is becoming to the upright.
How blessed are those who dwell in Thy house!
They are ever praising Thee.
Just as a father has compassion on his children,
So the LORD has compassion on those who fear Him.
O give thanks to the LORD, for He is good;
For His lovingkindness is everlasting.
Glory in His holy name;
Let the heart of those who seek the LORD be glad.
Not that I have already obtained it, or have already become perfect, but I press on in order that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus.
