The Afflictions  of the Righteous

We all face troubles  —  some more  —  some less.     King David had troubles constantly.     He was badgered  by enemies  of all sorts  trying to kill him.     He had a wife,  Michal,  who despised him  and a son,  Absalom,  who tried  to kill him  and usurp the throne.     Another son,  Adonijah,  tried to usurp the throne  from Solomon  when David  was about ready  to die.      Those experiences  showed that some  of David’s family  held him  in contempt  for his faith  in God.     But,  God was with David.     Even when David  was young,  he had  to face  all sorts  of wild animals  to protect his sheep.

When David had been captured  by Abimelech,  an enemy king,  he feigned insanity  and was released.     Then he wrote  in Psalm 34:19,

Many  are the afflictions  of the righteous,
But the LORD  delivers him out  of them all.

That is something  to think about  as we face our troubles.     God did lead David  through all  of his earthly   “afflictions”.     David was delivered  “out of them all”.     But,  most important,  David was delivered  unto eternal life  with the LORD  in whom  he put  his whole trust.

The Bible tells  of many earthly deliverances  of God’s children.     But,  it also tells  of others  who were martyred  and faced afflictions  for years.     Their deliverance  was a direct entrance  into eternal life.

Whatever we have  to face  in this life  —  whatever the earthly afflictions  —  we can know  that our Savior  is with us  through it all,  leading us  to our home  in heaven.     Psalm 94:14   assures us,

For the LORD  will not abandon  His people,
Nor will He forsake  His inheritance.

As we grow  in faith,  hope,  and love,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for closely sticking  with us  through all  of our afflictions  on this earth.”

Love,
Margaret
