Let Us Exalt  His Name  Together

Some people think  of praising God  only when they get  some sort  of special  —  unexpected  —  blessing.     King David saw things differently.     And,  David has been called a man  after God’s own heart.

So,  how should we see things differently  as David did,  so that we  could see things  in this world  rightly?     David shows us  in Psalm 34.     David had been captured  by the enemy  and was in great danger  of losing his life.     Abimelech and his men  had been wanting  to get David  for quite some time.     But,  David pretended  to be crazy.     So,  Abimelech released him  thinking he was  a worthless,  harmless nut.

In his captivity,  David’s heart  and praise  was directed  to God  —  while he pretended insanity.     Later,  David wrote  in Psalm 34:1-3,

I will bless the LORD  at all times;
His praise  shall continually be  in my mouth.
My soul  will make  its boast  in the LORD;
The humble  will hear it  and rejoice.
O magnify  the LORD  with me,
And let us exalt  His name  together.

David blessed the LORD  “at all times”  in his heart.     His whole soul  —  his whole life  —  was wrapped up  in praising the LORD.     So,  David wanted  “the humble”  to hear about the goodness  of God  “and rejoice”.     “The humble”  are those  who are not ashamed  to bow down  before the LORD  —  acknowledge His Lordship  over us all  —  and gladly serve Him  their whole lives  with joy  and praise.

David wants  “the humble”  through all the ages  to join him  in praising God  “at all times”,  so he says,  “let us exalt His name together”.

As our days  are rightly filled  with praise  for our Lord  and Savior,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Thank You,  Lord,  for keeping us  in Your loving care.”

Love,
Margaret
