It Flatters Him  in His Own Eyes

Throughout his life,  King David  had to deal  with all sorts  of people  —  many of whom  intensely hated him  for his faith  in God Almighty.     David realized  that much  of the hatred towards him  was due  to a deep-seated wickedness  and hatred  of goodness  —  and of God.     In regards  to the hatefulness  of those  who had no respect  for God,  David wrote  in Psalm 36:2,

For it flatters him  in his own eyes
Concerning the discovery  of his iniquity  and the hatred  of it.

David’s enemies  fully realized  that he hated  their wickedness.     It really tickled their fancy  whenever David would discover  another evil  they had committed  in an effort  to flaunt themselves  before God  and David.     They gleefully  imagined  that they would always be able  to get away  with their evils  —  but,  at the same time  they had a deep seated fear  of their eternal judgment  to come.     So,  Jesus taught us  in John 3:20,

For everyone  who does evil  hates the Light,  and does not come  to the Light  for fear  that his deeds  will be exposed.

And yet,  in the glory  of God’s love,  for all those  who do  turn around  and  “come  to the Light”,  there is forgiveness  of all their sins.     That is amazing grace  —  and it’s only  for those  who turn back  to God,  trusting Him  to wash away their sins  and guide them  in living rightly  for God.     It’s as Jesus says  in John 3:18,

He who believes  in Him  is not judged;  he who does not believe  has been judged already,  because  he has not believed  in the name  of the only begotten Son  of God.

That’s something  to think about  as we face  each day,  and say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord Jesus,  thank You  for promising  to cleanse us  when we honestly turn  to You.”

Love,
Margaret
