Who Has Qualified Us to Share
There are a lot of things in life that one must qualify for: to take part in certain races — to be accepted for a job — to graduate at various educational levels — to be on a team — to fly an airplane or drive a car — to write a computer program. Allowing unqualified people do any of these things would be disastrous.
We need training with good, knowledgeable instructors in order to become proficient and qualified for the things we want to do. As the instructor works with us, we must pay close attention and do as he says.
We have an instructor who has qualified us for eternal life. Paul tells us about Him in Colossians 1:9-12, as he prayed that the Colossians would do what is right. Paul wrote,
We have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that you may walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for the attaining of all steadfastness and patience; joyously giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in light.
That’s a mouthful — and every word of it is important. As each point builds on the next, the bottom line is that it is “the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in light”. Yes, with God’s help, we are to grow and be strengthened in many ways throughout this life. We are required to grow in “knowledge”, “spiritual wisdom and understanding”.
But God actually “qualified us” when Jesus paid for all our sins on the cross. Because “the Father” “qualified us” in Christ, in love and thanksgiving we now seek to live to His glory.
Glad to be “qualified” as God’s saint through Christ, we say, “Hallelujah! LORD, thank You for Your love that keeps working in us.”
Love,
Margaret
