Lovers  of Self

When Jesus taught us  about the end days,  He said in Matthew 24:12,

Because lawlessness  is increased,  most people’s love  will grow cold.

We need  to watch ourselves lest our  “love will grow cold”.     Loveless people  condition themselves  to be haters.     They think only  of what they want  and how they will get it,  as they trample over  other people.     Loveless people  will not find a place  in heaven  —  even though  they might imagine  they have a right  to heaven.

As the number  of loveless people increases,  there will be more and more  “lawlessness”.     More  “lawlessness” will,  in turn,  make more people loveless,  as they also seek  to satisfy their desires.     It’s a vicious,  ever-increasing circle  of hate  and selfishness.

2 Timothy 3:1-5  describes some  of this hateful lawlessness,

But realize this,  that in the last days  difficult times  will come.     For men will be lovers  of self,  lovers of money,  boastful,  arrogant,  revilers,  disobedient  to parents,  ungrateful,  unholy,  unloving,  irreconcilable,  malicious gossips,  without self-control,  brutal,  haters  of good,  treacherous,  reckless,  conceited,  lovers of pleasure  rather than lovers of God,  holding  to a form  of godliness,  although they have denied its power.     Avoid such men  as these.

In other words,  don’t be a part  of this crowd.     Everything listed  is actually a result of being  “lovers  of self”.     The more people  love themselves  and this world,  the farther  they part  from God  and His loving ways.     Since Jesus prophesied this lovelessness,  we need  to carefully  and truthfully monitor  our lives.

We don’t want  to allow this world  to sucker us  into its hateful,  self-centered ways  —  and thus lose  our salvation.

Holding close  to the heart  of God,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord,  as the author  and perfecter  of our faith,  let us always keep our eyes  on You.”

Love,
Margaret
