He  Who Has the Son  Has the Life

There are many affluent people,  who confidently feel  they have  “the life”.     When they think  of  “the life”,  they are thinking  of all the things  their wealth  and this world  have afforded them.     But,  there’s a problem  with that.     No one can take anything  with him  when he dies.     So,  in order  to gain  the real eternal  “life”,  we need  something better than  the things  of this world  —  better than  our own goodness  and efforts.

All those who believe  that Jesus’ suffering  and death  have fully paid  for all  of our sins  can take comfort  in 1 John 5:11-13,

And the testimony  is this,  that God has given us  eternal life,  and this life is  in His Son.     He who has the Son  has the life;  he who does not  have the Son  of God  does not have  the life.     These things  I have written  to you  who believe  in the name  of the Son  of God,  so that you may know  that you have eternal life.

With Jesus’ resurrection,  God Almighty  has testified  that everyone  who believes  and trusts  in the merits  of Jesus’ suffering,  death,  and resurrection  most certainly has  “the life”  —  “eternal life”  in heaven  —  as a free gift.     Simply believing  grants  this gift.

Jesus  has merited  eternal life  as a gift  for all  who believe  because He lived  a perfectly sinless life.     His holiness  —  His worthiness  —  has paid  for all our sins.     All we need  to do  is believe  God’s  “testimony”.

Sometimes,  believers  feel so undeserving  that they wonder  if this gift  of “eternal life”  is really  for them,  too.     They might imagine  that others are deserving  of Jesus’ gift  of  “eternal life”,  but that they aren’t  really deserving.     But,  Jesus is deserving  in our place,  and He gives us the gift  of  “life”  —  just for believing  in Him.

As we let  the “testimony”  of God  soak in,  we gratefully say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord,  Your love  is so wonderful.”

Love,
Margaret
