If… You Will Profane It

If…….  You Will Profane It

To profane something  is to not consider it holy  or consecrated  to God Almighty.     It is a disdainful show  of disrespect  and contempt  for what is sacred  in God Almighty’s eyes.     People profane  the LORD  when they desecrate  anything that is considered  the LORD’s.     To be so arrogant  is to bring judgment  upon one’s self.

Shortly after the Israelites  left Egypt,  God gave them  the ten commandments  and other instructions  for their lives.     The LORD instructed  in Exodus 20:25,

If you make  an altar  of stone  for Me,  you shall not build it  of cut stones,  for if  you wield  your tool  on it,  you will profane it.

There was to be  absolutely  no work  of a man  on any altar stones  set up  for the LORD.     That is just the opposite  of mankind’s tendency.     We want  to add  to things  —  “fix” them up  —  arrange them  in a way  that pleases us  —  and decorate them  for our pleasure.     But,  God says,  “No.”

We have a sinful nature  that wants  to change  God’s holy ways.     People want to “decorate”  God’s free salvation  with their own good works  —  man-made doctrines  —  man-made rituals and ceremonies  —  man-made traditions.     But,  God warns us against  our sinful natures,  saying,  “you will profane it.”

Anyone  who wants  to have an honest  respect  and worship  of God,  must refrain  from defiling and polluting  God’s worship  with man-made good works,  doctrines,  rituals,  and traditions  —  to suit their own sinful inclinations.     Mankind’s pride  seeks  to justify himself  by adding  to God’s given word  about salvation  only through faith  in Christ Jesus.

People have made up  their own rules,  regulations,  and requirements  for eternal life.     In doing so,  they “profane”  God’s given word.     We cannot perfect  God’s salvation  through Jesus Christ.     It’s already perfect  as God set it forth  in the Bible.     Adding to  —  or taking away  from that  —  is to desecrate it,  and bring condemnation upon ourselves.      God’s word specifically teaches,

But  in vain do they worship Me,  teaching as doctrines  the precepts  of men.       Mark 7:7

But the Spirit  explicitly says  that in later times  some will fall away  from the faith,  paying attention  to deceitful spirits  and doctrines  of demons.       1 Timothy 4:1

Depending  on God  to teach us  in His word,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for teaching us.”

Love,
Margaret
