Let Us  Draw Near  with Confidence

Whether one thinks  of it  or not,  we are all  on a spiritual journey  while on this earth.     While on earth,  we face all sorts  of temptations  and trials.     How do we react  in times  of temptations and trials?     God’s word  compares our lives,  temptations,  and trials  to the travels  of the Israelites  as they spent 40 years  in the desert.     (Hebrews 4:1-16)

Though they had been miraculously  set free  from slavery  in Egypt,  they chose  to be complainers  and not believe God’s promises  of being able  to conquer  the Promised Land.     Because they refused  to trust God,  God made them wander  in the desert  for 40 years.     They had  a big time problem  believing God.

God’s promises  did not change them.     God’s many miracles  did not change them.     They had hardened hearts  of unbelief.     Their hardened hearts  prevented them  from immediately  receiving the promised rest  of being  in the Promised Land.

We also  could use  a rest  for our souls  —  a rest  from the anxiety  our temptations  and trials bring.     Our rest  is in the promises  of God  about our Savior,  Christ Jesus.     Instead of having hardened hearts  of unbelief,  we need  to listen  to what God promises  and gives us  throughout the Bible  —  see  how God has proven  that His word is true  —  and believe  all that God wants  to give us  in Christ Jesus.

Reminding us  of God’s miraculous power  towards us  in Christ,  Hebrews 4:16  urges us,

Therefore  let us draw near  with confidence  to the throne  of grace,  so that  we may receive  mercy  and find grace  to help  in time  of need.

We have good reason  to  draw near  with confidence  to the throne  of grace.”     We can personally get  “mercy”  and “grace”  from our Savior  in every  “time  of need”.      God knows  our needs  are great  and He wants us  to believe  in Him.

Knowing God’s miracles  of “mercy”  and  “grace”  in Christ,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for inviting us  to draw near  to You  for the help we need.”

Love,
Margaret
