The LORD  Gives Wisdom

God promises  to lead us  when we honestly care  to follow  His leading  and respect  His holy being.     So,  Proverbs 2:1-6  teaches us,

My son,  if you will receive  my words
And treasure my commandments  within you,

Make your ear attentive  to wisdom,
Incline  your heart  to understanding;

For if you cry  for discernment,
Lift your voice  for understanding

If you seek her  as silver
And search  for her  as for hidden treasures;

Then  you will discern  the fear  of the LORD
And discover  the knowledge  of God.

For  the LORD  gives wisdom;
From His mouth  come knowledge  and understanding.

Solomon is emphasizing  that we need  to so  “treasure”  God’s  “commandments”  that we listen attentively  to God’s  “wisdom”  and  “incline”  our hearts  to really  “understanding”  it.     We need  to care  about doing things  God’s way.     Jesus taught us  in Luke 10:27,  that the most important  “commandments” are,

You shall love the LORD  your God  with all your heart,  and with all your soul,  and with all your strength,  and with all your mind;  and your neighbor  as yourself.

These two commandments  cover everything  we need  to be like.

In our  “search”  for God’s  “discernment”  we need  to be searching  through God’s word  as diligently  as we would  “search” for  “hidden treasures”.     In order  to do that,  we need  to actually realize  that there are  rich  “treasures”  in God’s word  —  “treasures”  that will keep  our souls safe  while on this earth,  and lead us  to our glorious heavenly home  for all eternity.

Obviously,  we aren’t looking for any worldly wisdom  because that isn’t as valuable  as an honest  “fear  of the LORD”  and “knowledge  of God”.     As  “the LORD  gives wisdom”   to us  in His word,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  Your love  and salvation  in Christ Jesus  are beyond compare.”

Love,
Margaret
