And Now,  LORD,  For What Do I Wait?

We “wait”  for a lot of things  during our life time.     If someone is sick,  we “wait”  for healing.     If we’re applying  for a job,  we “wait”  to hear  if we’ve been chosen.     If we’re facing  a challenge  of any sort,  we “wait”  for God’s leading.     That’s how it was  for King David  as he faced  wicked enemies.     In Psalm 39:7-8  David wrote,

And now,  LORD,  for what do  I wait?
My hope  is in You.
Deliver me  from all  my transgressions;
Make me not  the reproach  of the foolish.

David’s enemies  were evil  in their every intent,  but David realized  something important.     Everyone’s life  is very short  in the scope  of all time.     In the very short time  we have  on earth,  we need  to watch ourselves  so that we  do not fall  into sin  —  whether it be the sin  of not trusting God  —  the sin  of doing something sinful  in unjust retaliation  —  the sin  of doing things our way  instead  of God’s way  —  the sin  of foul,  blaspheming,  ungodly language  against our enemies.

Any  of these sins  could make us  “the reproach  of the foolish”.     Those  who do not love God  are only too glad  to see  God’s children  fall  into some sin  in their frustration.     That is why  they often try  to provoke  God’s children  into sin.

And,  that is why David pleaded  with God,  “Deliver me  from all  my transgressions.”     David greatly desired God’s will  to be done  in every situation  he had  to face.     Our main focus  in life  needs to be  like David’s  —  “My hope  is in You”.     It is good  to “hope”  in the LORD,  instead of trusting  our sinful tendencies.

Waiting  for the LORD,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  help us  to humbly  let Your will  be done.”

Love,
Margaret
