The Testimony Is This
Court cases review all sorts of testimonies. Some of them can be trusted — others not. All people are sinners, so it’s only discerning to be careful in believing what mere people say. Every jury must examine all the details and evidence in a case to determine which is the true “testimony”.
God’s “testimony” is given to us in the whole Bible — the declared eternal word of God Almighty. It has proven itself to be true and trustworthy, through all the fulfilled prophecies, that were written over thousands of years. We also need to examine God’s “testimony” to come to a knowledge of the truth.
Studying God’s word (God’s testimony) teaches us the truths of God — and leads us to a true faith. Therefore, 1 John 5:10-12 says,
The one who believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself; the one who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has given concerning His Son. And the testimony is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life.
When we study God’s “testimony” in the Bible, we see and are repeatedly assured “that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son”. “Given” is the key word. Nobody can earn “eternal life”. It is the gift of God that has been “given” to us “in His Son”.
Without accepting the gift of forgiveness through Jesus, we do “not have the life”. We accept God’s gift as we “believe” God’s full “testimony” in the Bible.
Rejoicing in our salvation as found in God’s “testimony”, we say, “Hallelujah! LORD, Your word is truth!”
Love,
Margaret
