Search Me,  O God,  And Know My Heart

Some people think  they are hiding  from God  all that is  in the very depths  of their hearts.     But,  truth be told,  absolutely nobody  can hide anything  from God Almighty,  our Creator and Redeemer.     And,  that’s actually  a very comforting truth.     King David loved this truth  because it means  that God is able  to help us  even before  we realize  how desperately  we need help.     Better yet,  God desires  to help us  through our trials  and temptations.

Thankful  for God’s intimate concern  for our souls,  David wrote  in Psalm 139:23-24,

Search me,  O God,  and know  my heart;
Try me  and know  my anxious thoughts;
And see  if there be  any hurtful way  in me,
And lead me  in the everlasting way.

What a wonderful invitation  to God.     This is just how God wants us  to be.     Our Creator,  who knows our thoughts  before we even think them,  wants us  to share those thoughts  with Him,  so that  He will be invited  to lead  and guide us  through this life.     Hint,  hint  —  hint, hint, hint.

God knows our sinful thoughts  —  agonizing thoughts  —  loving thoughts  —  hateful thoughts  —  depressing thoughts  —  fearful thoughts  —  angry thoughts  —  and He wants  to help us  to see life  through His perspective,  so we may live victoriously  through a real faith  in Christ Jesus.

We know  David’s love  and understanding  of the LORD  was very much  on track  as he prayed,  “See if there be any hurtful way  in me,  and lead me  in the everlasting way.”     David did not want  his sinful thoughts  to lead him  into more sin.     He knew  that only the LORD God Almighty  can truly  “lead me  in the everlasting way”.

We shouldn’t dare  to trust  in mere people.     We are all sinners  so apt  to stray.     We all need  to trust God our Savior.

Recognizing our weaknesses  and need  for help,  we say,   “Hallelujah!     Search our hearts deeply  and intimately lead us  to our home  in heaven.”

Love,
Margaret
