Guard  What Has Been Entrusted  to You

Absolutely every single Christian,  who has accepted Christ  as their Savior  from all sin,  has a precious treasure  within them.     Their treasure  is worth more  than anything  on earth.     That is why  we must “guard”  it  with our whole lives.     This treasure  has been  “entrusted”  to each of us.     We are  to keep it safe  —  not allowing it  to be altered  in our lives,  hearts,  or minds.     Of course,  it is the treasure  of salvation  through faith  in Jesus alone  —  according to God’s promise  in the Bible.

The young preacher,  Timothy,  had this treasure  in his heart,  and Paul wrote  to him  in 1 Timothy 6:20-21,

O Timothy,  guard  what has been entrusted  to you,  avoiding worldly  and empty chatter  and the opposing arguments  of what is falsely called  “knowledge”,  which some have professed  and thus gone astray  from the faith.     Grace be with you.

Even in the very beginnings  of Christianity,  there were false prophets  and teachers  of every kind.     They all  were proudly  and belligerently proclaiming  some special  “knowledge”  that only they possessed.     Their  so-called  “knowledge” was contrary  to the given word  of God in the Bible  —  so it really  was not “knowledge”  at all  —  it was deception,  lies,  and blasphemies.     And those  who did not take the time  to learn God’s word  straight  from the Bible  would not realize  that they were being deceived.

God’s word  has been  “entrusted”  to us also  —  and we are  to “guard” the truths  of God  by studying the Bible  and applying it  to our daily lives.     Then,  whenever anyone tries  to convince us  to accept  a false doctrine,  we will not be led  “astray  from the faith”.

In the joy  and freedom  of God’s truths,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  Your salvation  is our greatest treasure.”

Love,
Margaret
