A Shadow of the Good Things to Come

A Shadow of the Good Things to Come
We all love times of high expectations. They might come for birthdays, Christmas, job promotions, graduation, and the like. Our high expectations are not the real thing — just a knowledge of the “shadow of the good things to come”.
Hebrews 10:1 explains that the Law of God is like that,
For the Law, since it has only a shadow of the good things to come and not the very form of things, can never, by the same sacrifices which they offer continually year by year, make perfect those who draw near.
There are many in their sin who hate “the Law” of God. They exude a hatred that leads them to fight to have the Ten Commandments removed from every public place or to be allowed to display their satanic imagery next to God’s commandments. They build web sites that glorify sin and satanic ideas and despise the things of God.
They totally miss the fact that “the Law” is “a shadow of the good things to come” — “good things” that will not fail to come to all God’s children. We understand how good everything will be when absolutely everyone perfectly obeys God’s law in heaven. There will be no murder, thievery, slander, hatred, greed, blasphemy, or pride. Everything will be the result of a perfect love — which is in “the good things to come” — which we all look forward to.
Jesus taught in John 14:15,
If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.
Keeping Jesus’ commandments is simply an expression of love. It’s living out now “the good things to come” that we claim we are looking forward to. Keeping Jesus’ “commandments” has nothing to do with man-made traditions or rules. Jesus’ “commandments” are about loving God above all and loving others as ourselves — living out some of the “good things” now.
Thinking about our heavenly expectations, we say, “Hallelujah! Lord Jesus, we eagerly look forward to eternal life with You.”
Love,
Margaret
