The City  Which Has Foundations

We probably all know  Jesus’ parable  of the house  built upon a foundation  of rock  and the house built  without any foundation  in Luke 6:46-49.     God’s words speak  of even greater “foundations.     Hebrews 11:9-10 tells us  about Abraham,

By faith  he lived  as an alien  in the land  of promise,  as in a foreign land,  dwelling  in tents  with Isaac  and Jacob,  fellow heirs  of the same promise;  for he was looking  for the city  which has foundations,  whose architect  and builder  is God.

That’s interesting.     Abraham was  “looking  for the city  which has foundations.     “Foundations  is plural.     Abraham knew  that God Almighty  had a place  that was immeasurably better  than any place here  on earth.     That special  city”  “has foundations,  meaning it is beautiful  beyond description,  strong,  eternal,  and indestructible.

Then,  Revelation 21:19-20  tells us  of God’s city,

The foundation stones  of the city wall  were adorned  with every kind  of precious stone.     The first foundation stone  was jasper;  the second, sapphire;  the third, chalcedony;  the fourth, emerald;  the fifth, sardonyx;  the sixth, sardius;  the seventh, chrysolite;  the eighth, beryl;  the ninth, topaz;  the tenth, chrysoprase;  the eleventh, jacinth;  the twelfth, amethyst.

What God  has built  for us  is eternal  and most beautiful.     It’s better  than anything  we can imagine here  on earth.     Even though  we can read a bit  about it  in the book  of Revelation,  we still  cannot honestly  imagine it.     Since it’s far beyond  our wildest imagination,  we just need  to be content knowing  that it’s wonderful.     It will be our eternal home  and nothing  will ever  disturb us there.

Like Abraham,  we have something special  to look forward to  in eternal life.     Like Abraham,  we can assuredly  go through our trials here,  confidently knowing  that we have  a better place  in heaven.

With joyful anticipation,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for keeping us safe  in this world.”

Love,
Margaret
