Let Him  Who Boasts Boast  of This

When people  become decrepit  in all their ways,  they love  to boast  of their ill-gotten gains  —  whether it be gains  in power,  riches,  supposed wisdom,  ability  to get away  with lies,  or whatever.     So,  God described  the people  of Israel  in  Jeremiah 9:3,

They bend  their tongue  like their bow;
Lies  and not truth  prevail  in the land;
For they proceed  from evil  to evil,
And  they do not  know Me.

That describes  our world today.     Where ever  we look,  it appears that  “Lies  and not truth  prevail  in the land”.     The reason given  is that they don’t know God.     They either don’t know  —  or don’t care  —  that God Almighty  will be their Judge  for all eternity.     All they can think of  is getting  what they want  —  when they want it  —  and how they want it.

When God described  the people  of Israel above,  He was not  just describing  the head honchos.     God was describing  the majority  of the people  —  whatever their status  in society.     Most everybody  is looking  for gains  by hook  or by crook  —  and so they lie  and  “proceed  from evil  to evil”.

These people boasted  of their worldly gains.     But,  God said  in Jeremiah 9:23-24,

Let not a wise man  boast  of his wisdom,  and let not the mighty man  boast  of his might,  let not a rich man  boast  of his riches;  but let him  who boasts  boast  of this,  that he understands  and knows Me,  that I am the LORD  who exercises  lovingkindness,  justice  and righteousness  on earth;  for I delight  in these things.

Worldly  “wisdom” “might”,  and “riches”  are all meaningless  —  nothings  that cannot be taken with us  into eternity.     If we want something  to take with us  into eternity,  we can  boast”  that we know  and understand God’s sovereignty  and that God is loving,  just,  and righteous.

Our greatest treasure  is to honestly know  and acknowledge  our Creator  and Redeemer,   as LORD of lords.

Ever so glad  that the LORD alone  is God,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for letting us  become acquainted  with You.”

Love,
Margaret
