He  Who Offers  a Sacrifice  of Thanksgiving

To “sacrifice”  is to give up  something  of value  to you.     It’s  of important value  to you.     It makes you think  of what you are giving  —  and of the one  you greatly desire  to give it to.     An honest “sacrifice”  is an expression  of love  and honor.

In Psalm 50,  God talks about  both righteous  and wicked people.     They all  make sacrifices  —  either honestly  or dishonestly.     The LORD lovingly accepts  the sacrifices  of the righteous  —  but,  God testifies against  all wicked people  and their deceitful sacrifices.     To them  God says  in Psalm 50:16-17,

What right  have you  to tell  of My statutes
And  to take  My covenant  in your mouth?
For you hate discipline,
And you cast  My words behind you.

God hates it  when wicked people lie,  hatefully twist God’s word,  and willfully live  in deceit  and sin  because they hate the discipline  of God’s holy,  and true righteousness.     They pretend  to be righteous  by talking  about God’s  “covenant”,  but they hate the truths  of God’s word,  so they “cast”  God’s “words”  “behind” them  and make up their own doctrines,  that lead others  to hell.

In spite  of all this,  God wants them  to repent  of all their evils,  and turn  to the loving truths  of God’s ways.     After pointing out  some of their evils,  God tells them  in Psalm 50:22-23,

Now  consider this,  you who forget God,
Or I will tear you  in pieces,  and there will be none  to deliver.

He who offers  a sacrifice  of thanksgiving  honors Me;
And  to him  who orders  his way aright
I shall show  the salvation  of God.

As much as God hates sin,  He loves all  of us sinners,  and wants us  to return  to His loving truths.     God wants us  to live  in His truths  —  and be thankful  for His loving righteousness  and free offer  of salvation.

In awe  of God’s faithful love,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Thank You, LORD!”

Love,
Margaret
