I Have  Set the LORD  Continually  Before Me

When we realize  that the LORD is God  and there is no other Lord or Savior,  we need  to react respectfully  to that truth.     King David’s life  was a continual reaction  to every evidence  of God’s sovereignty  in his life.     David wrote  in Psalm 16:8-9,

I have set  the LORD  continually  before me;
Because  He is at my right hand,  I will not  be shaken.
Therefore  my heart  is glad  and my glory rejoices;
My flesh also  will dwell securely.

From all his life experiences,  David knew  that the LORD is God,  and that the LORD  is almighty  in absolutely everything.     From everything David witnessed  in God’s creation  and the power  of His word  —  from creation to the days  of David’s life  —  there was positive evidence  of God’s loving,  powerful authority.

That was all it took  for David  to declare,  “I have set  the LORD  continually  before me.”

Our lives  are not  that different  from David’s.     All creation  still witnesses  God’s almighty power  and wisdom.       We, too,  have experienced times  of God’s almighty,  protecting hand.     We,  too,  need  to humbly realize  that we have a lot   to be thankful for.

Whenever David sinned,  he remembered  the eternal truth expressed  in Isaiah 44:22,  where God says,

I have wiped out  your transgressions  like a thick cloud
And your sins  like a heavy mist.
Return  to Me,  for I have redeemed you.

We can “return”  to the LORD God Almighty  —  like David always did  —  because God  has “redeemed” us  in Christ Jesus.     Knowing that eternal truth,  we can  “set the LORD  continually  before me”.

In everything we do,  we are  to always remember  the LORD’s love  and sovereignty  in Christ Jesus.     He is always near  and has promised  to never forsake us.     With joyful confidence,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for Your faithful love  in Christ Jesus.”

Love,
Margaret
