Restore to Me the Joy

Restore  to Me  the Joy

Because  of all the stuff that happens  in life,  we easily lose our  “joy”.     New problems  constantly pop up,  non-stop.     Our tendency  to sin  is downright depressing.     When King David sinned,  big time,  he prayed  in Psalm 51:12,

Restore  to me  the joy  of Your salvation
And sustain me  with a willing spirit.

We lose “the joy”  of God’s  “salvation”  when we’re caught  in our sins.     We realize  our guilt  before God Almighty,  our eternal Judge,  and we fearfully wonder  if He’ll ever take  the likes  of us back  into His fellowship.     We don’t know  if our desire  to sin again  will overpower us  and take us down  for good.     We feel  like we’ve lost  our  “salvation”  —  we’re weak  and helpless  —  downright depressed.

We know God  is LORD  over all  —  always has been  and always will be.     We know Jesus  is prophetically proven  to be  the Savior  of the world.     But,  we’ve failed God,  in spite  of all His goodness  —  and wonder  about the weakness  of our  “spirit”.     How can we  ever be  a child  of God  in such faithlessness?

David knew  that in his own self  —  in any strength he had  — it was impossible  for him  to muster up  the “joy”  and strength needed  to always live  according to God’s ways.     David needed God  to  “restore”  and “sustain”  him.     Our sinful spirits  need  to become  “willing spirits”  —  gladly remembering  God’s righteousness  and honestly desiring  to live according to it.

God is our only hope  for help  —  and He is most willing  to  “restore”  and “sustain” us.     David thankfully tells us  in Psalm 55:22,

Cast  your burden  upon the LORD  and  He will sustain you;
He will never  allow  the righteous  to be shaken.

All believers  are considered  “righteous”.     Because God is so willing  to  “sustain” us,  let Him do it  in Christ Jesus.     Then  we will find our “joy”  in His salvation,  and say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for Your faithful love.”

Love,
Margaret
