Do Not  Be Afraid,  Little Flock

When we are considered  unimportant,  of no appreciable influence,  rather poor,  less knowledgeable,  not as righteous,  not as talented,  or not as sophisticated  as “most” people,  we are often rejected  —  somewhat pushed  into the background.     Naturally,  we feel  the rejection  —  and feel less worthy  than others.

We know  that we surely believe  in Jesus  as our Savior  from sin  —  but some others act  like we’re not worthy enough  to be really saved.     Whatever our life circumstances,  in Luke 12:32,  Jesus said  to all those  who believe  in Him,

Do not  be afraid,  little flock,  for your Father  has chosen gladly  to give you  the kingdom.

It’s Jesus’ word  and promise  that counts.     We are called  Jesus’  “little flock”  because we are as helpless  as little lambs  —  and Jesus is  the Good Shepherd  who deeply cares  for us.     The Greek word  for “little”  refers to those  who are humble  and of a lower rank  or influence.     In actuality,  absolutely everyone  on earth  is  “little”  in God’s eyes.     But,  the proud  and self-righteous  just don’t think  they are  “little”.

We can be glad  that Jesus reassures us  by saying,  “Do not be afraid,  little flock”.     The Bible  often refers  to us  as being “little”.     A couple times  when Jesus used the term are:

Whoever  in the name  of a disciple  gives to one  of these little ones  even a cup  of cold water  to drink,  truly I say  to you,  he shall not lose his reward.       Matthew 10:42

The one  who is least  among all  of you,  this is the one  who is great.       Luke 9:48

Our Savior  looks  at the faith  in our hearts.     All the other things  of this world  don’t count  in God’s eyes.     Let us always remember  to love  and do good  to all  of God’s children.

In peace,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord Jesus,  thank You  for loving us.”

Love,
Margaret
