If You Do Not Wake Up, I Will Come Like a Thief

If  You Do Not  Wake Up,  I Will Come  Like a Thief

Christians often wonder  when Christ Jesus  will come  to gather us up  and judge the world.     Although Christ has repeatedly assured us  of His coming,  He also tells us  in Mark 13:32,

But  of that day  or hour  no one knows,  not even the angels  in heaven…….

Because  “no one knows”,  Christians are often mocked  for believing  in Christ’s return.     They are also mocked for watching  for the apostasy to take place.     An apostasy is the abandoning of one’s faith.     The abandoning  of faith  in the LORD  has been happening  since the beginning,  and  in Jeremiah 2:19  God describes it,

Your own wickedness  will correct you,
And your apostasies  will reprove you;
Know therefore  and see  that it is evil  and bitter
For you  to forsake  the LORD  your God,
And the dread  of Me  is not  in you.

An apostate person  no longer dreads  the LORD  —  so they  “forsake  the LORD”.     But,  such “wickedness”  will prove  “bitter”  as it eternally corrects  those who  “forsake  the LORD”.

In all this,  God continues  to love us  and desires  to save us eternally.     That’s why  we get so many warnings  throughout the Bible  about changing our evil ways  and turning back  to faith  in the LORD.     In Revelation 3:3,  our Savior warns,

Remember what you have received  and heard;  and keep it,  and repent.     Therefore  if you do not wake up,  I will come  like a thief,  and you will not know  at what hour  I will come  to you.

We  as individuals  need  to retain repentant hearts  —  remembering God’s word.     We cannot afford  to let ourselves fall  into the ways  of the world  —  and be lulled  into the apostasy  of not believing  and respecting  the LORD.     As Christ’s coming  draws nearer,  we will see  great evils  and the majority  of people  forsaking the LORD.     That will be tough.     But,  we must remain vigilant  in faith,  no matter how cold  the hearts  of others become.

God has promised  to be with us,  so we say,  “Hallelujah!     Come,  Lord Jesus.”

Love,
Margaret
