Before  I Formed You  in the Womb  I Knew You

There are so many things  about God  and our lives  on earth  that we cannot fathom.     We know  that the LORD  made all things  —  that He is all-wise  —  almighty  —  eternal  —  and totally holy  in His whole being.     Yet,  it is mind boggling  that God said  to the prophet Jeremiah,  in Jeremiah 1:5,

Before  I formed you  in the womb  I knew you,
And before  you were born  I consecrated you;
I have appointed you  a prophet  to the nations.

Since no one  can honestly explain  just how  this can be,  we need  to accept this  as one  of God’s attributes.     This is just the way  God is.     It’s awesome  —  and it’s just one aspect  of His unfathomable,  almighty being.

But,  we need  to realize  that God also “formed”  each of us  “in the womb”.     God “knew” each of us   before we were born.     It is God  who sustains us  throughout our lives  —  gives us breath  —  knows our every thought and action.     So, God is fully qualified  to be our eternal Judge.

We should not add  our imagination  to this fact  —  nor take away  from it.

The Bible tells us  about God’s knowledge  of us  in a number of places.     Some examples are:

By You  I have been sustained  from my birth;
You are He  who took me  from my mother’s womb;
My praise  is continually  of You.     Psalm 71:6    ( A Psalm by an old man )

For You formed  my inward parts;
You wove me  in my mother’s womb………
Your eyes have seen  my unformed substance;
And in Your book  were all written
The days  that were ordained  for me,
When as yet  there was not one  of them.     Psalm 139, verses 13 and 16     ( By David )

The wicked  are estranged  from the womb;
These who speak lies  go astray  from birth.     Psalm 58:3     ( By David )

…….God,  who had set me apart  even from my mother’s womb  and called me  through His grace,  was pleased  to reveal  His Son  in me  so that I might preach Him  among the Gentiles…….      Galatians 1:15-16   ( By Paul )

In deep respect  for our Creator Redeemer,  we simply say,  “Hallelujah!     Blessed be Your name!”

Love,
Margaret
