So That I May Walk Before God

So That I May Walk Before God
We will never be able to express the wonders of being able to “walk before God”. Even though King David experienced all sorts of dangers from evil people on this earth, he kept his trust in the LORD. In Psalm 56, David described how his enemies distorted his words, planned all sorts of evils against him, and proudly fought against him.
In spite of all the constant hatred against him, David praised God’s word, and trusted in God’s promise to help all those who put their faith in the LORD. In Psalm 56:13, David wrote,
For You have delivered my soul from death,
Indeed my feet from stumbling,
So that I may walk before God
In the light of the living.
David died a natural death, but many of God’s faithful followers have been killed for their faith. David is not talking about being delivered from an earthly “death”. David said, “You have delivered my soul from death”. That means David knows his “soul” will live eternally in heaven. Even if David would have been killed on earth, his “soul” was sure to go to heaven, because he trusted in the LORD. All those who refuse to believe in the LORD will suffer eternal “death” as they go to hell.
That’s a huge difference.
Then David said the LORD “delivered” his “feet from stumbling”. He is referring to a spiritual “stumbling” into unbelief and sins of all sorts. Because David remained close to God in love, praise, prayer, and worship, God remained close to him. David was fully aware that God was keeping him safe in the true faith. He knew that because he made it a practice to meditate on God’s words, learn from them, and apply them to his life.
God was keeping David safe “so that I may walk before God in the light of the living”. “The living” are all God’s faithful in heaven. God does the same for us as we remain close to Him.
Glad for God’s sustaining love, we say, “Hallelujah! LORD, thank You for Your deliverances.”
Love,
Margaret
