If  You Belong  to Christ

Sometimes a Christian  can feel  rather put down  and rejected  by other Christians.     There can be  any number  of reasons  for that  —  and the reason  should definitely  not be  a desire  to live  in sin.

Throughout God’s word,  we are taught  that the law  of God is good  —  because it shows  and guides us  into right living.    But,  just obeying the law  can never save anyone.     Only faith  in Christ’s sacrifice  for us  on the cross  is what saves us.

Knowing God’s law  teaches us  the difference between  the wondrous holiness  of God  —  and the wretchedly sick evils  of this world.     God’s laws  assure us  of God’s goodness  and love.     God revealed  these laws  to us  so we would see  the beauty  of goodness  and want  to be good.

Our personal lives  are proof positive  that it is impossible  to keep  all of God’s laws.     Knowing our sinfulness  and the goodness  of God  leads us  to ask  for God’s forgiveness  in Christ.     No matter who we are,  when God cleanses us  of our sins,  we are cleansed  and holy  in His sight.

No matter what anybody else thinks matters.     Our past is forgiven  and we are now  living according  to God’s word.     The apostle Paul points out  in Galatians 3:27-29,

For all  of you  who were baptized  into Christ  have clothed yourselves  with Christ.     There is neither Jew  nor Greek,  there is neither slave  nor free man,  there is neither male  nor female;  for you are all one  in Christ Jesus.     And if you belong  to Christ,  then you are  Abraham’s descendants,  heirs  according  to promise.

“If you belong  to Christ”  means  if you believe  Jesus has the power  to wash away sins  —  and if you change your life style  to be  more like Jesus.     No matter  who we are,  believing in Jesus  makes us belong  to Jesus.     We don’t have  to  feel less  than other Christians.     And  —  it is wrong  for other Christians  to wrongly imagine  we are less.

As we believe  and strive  to live  the way Christ lived  on earth,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for loving us  so perfectly.”

Love,
Margaret
