Test the Spirits
When we want to buy something, it only makes sense to buy the product proven to be the best on the market. It needs to be tested. We want it to last and be satisfying. We look for safety features and details that assure our satisfaction.
Our search for truth shouldn’t be any different. Most people realize that within them is a sense of eternity — put there by our Creator. So, they want the best that eternity can offer them. There are so many religions in this world, one wonders which one is truthful. Sadly, most people do not check out the truthfulness of the belief system they end up with.
Even within the framework of what is called “Christianity”, there are many false preachers and doctrines. What is a person to do? Read and study the Bible — God’s word — which has been tested for thousands of years and proven to be true with many fulfilled prophecies over those thousands of years. During all those years, false religions and doctrines have been followed — but they all failed the test of God’s word.
1 John 4:1 tells us,
Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.
And, 2 Peter 2:1-3 warns us,
But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will also be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction upon themselves. Many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of the truth will be maligned; and in their greed they will exploit you with false words; their judgment from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep.
We can “test the spirits” only by comparing their words with God’s word. That means study the Bible from cover to cover.
Assured of salvation through faith in Christ Jesus, we joyfully say, “Hallelujah! LORD, Your word is indeed eternal.”
Love,
Margaret
