The LORD  Is Good  to Those  Who Wait  for Him

Patience,  patience,  patience…      When we feel like  we’re being put down  —  big time  —  and like God is refusing  to answer  our prayers,  we need  to read  what the prophet Jeremiah  went through  in Lamentations 3.     Jeremiah laments  that God is afflicting him  with  “the rod  of His wrath”  —  making him walk  in “darkness”  —  causing his “flesh”  and “skin  to waste away”  —  making him feel “dead”  —  shutting out his  “prayer”  —  blocking his way  with “hewn stone”  —  making him “desolate”  —  making him a “laughingstock  to all my people”.

These and more sufferings  made Jeremiah feel  terribly put down.

But,  Jeremiah remembered things  all Christians need  to remember.      In Lamentations 3:22-23  he remembered,

The LORD’s lovingkindnesses  indeed  never cease,
For His compassions  never fail.
They are new  every morning;
Great is Your faithfulness.

In the same breath  of feeling put down,  Jeremiah remembered  God’s unfailing love  and compassion.     God was putting Jeremiah  through all kinds  of severe testings.     Jeremiah plainly stated  that it was the LORD  who was causing  all this grief  for him.     But,  in truth,  Jeremiah says  in Lamentations 3:32,

For  if He causes grief,
Then He will have compassion
According to His abundant  lovingkindness.

God lets us suffer  and have growing pains  in our faith.     But then,  He will surely have “compassion”.      Trusting  in the LORD’s faithful  “compassion”,  Jeremiah assures us  in Lamentations 3:25-28,

The LORD  is good  to those  who wait  for Him,
To the person  who seeks Him.

It is good  that he waits silently
For the salvation  of the LORD.
It is good  for a man  that he should bear
The yoke  in his youth.

Let him  sit along  and be silent
Since He  has laid it  on him.

God’s love  has consistently  been proven  —  especially  in Christ Jesus.     We have good reason  to say,  “Hallelujah!     Heavenly Father,  we wait quietly  for Your salvation.     Thank You  for being with us  as we wait  for You.”

Love,
Margaret
