I Know Them

I  Know Them

We can  know  “about” some people  —  have a passing acquaintance  with some  —  have no clue  about who they are  —  or  be very good friends,  who enjoy each other  because we share  the same ideals  and truths.

The Jewish religious leadership  had no clue  about who Jesus was.     Sure,  they listened  to His preaching  —  they saw His miracles  —  but they still  could not figure out  who He was.     This was  not the same  as  not knowing someone  on the other side  of the world,  that you had never heard of.     Those religious leaders saw  and heard,  but refused  to believe  that Jesus was the promised Messiah.

So Jesus plainly told them,  they were unable  to believe Him  because they were  “not of My sheep”.     (John 10:26)     Those who stubbornly refuse  to believe  in all the proofs  of God  have cut themselves off  from a relationship  with God.     Those  who believe  what their eyes  have seen  and ears  have heard  connect themselves  to the proofs  of God.

Therefore Jesus said  in John 10:27-28,

My sheep  hear My voice,  and I know them,  and they follow Me;  and I give eternal life  to them,  and they will never perish;  and no one  will snatch them out  of My hand.

Those  who let Jesus be their Shepherd  will never eternally perish.     They are safe  in His almighty care.     It’s true  that they are mocked  by the unbelieving world,  but we need  to remember  what Jesus said  in Matthew 24:37-39,

For the coming  of the Son  of Man  will be  just like the days  of Noah.     For as in those days  before the flood  they were eating  and drinking,  marrying  and giving in marriage,  until the day  that Noah entered the ark,  and they did not understand  until the flood came  and took them all away;  so will the coming  of the Son of Man be.

People can choose  to not believe  and mock Christ.     As they deliberately  cut off  a friendship  with the Savior,  they will not  “understand”  until their end.     Then  it will be  too late.     We see them  all around us  as they sneer  at what they call  the “stupidity”  of those  who actually believe  in Jesus.

That does not matter.     We are safe  in God’s hand,  and say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord Jesus,  thank You  for knowing us  as Your very own sheep.     It’s so good  to belong  to You.”

Love,
Margaret
