I Will  Sing Praise  to Your Name  Forever

When we’re happy,  we sing  —  at least  there is a song  in our heart,  even if those around us  cannot hear it.    And,  according  to God’s word,  absolutely everyone  in heaven  is happy.     So,  they always  sing praises  to God,  our Savior.     Their happiness is in relief  from the onslaughts  of sin  —  and in the pure joy  of all the holiness and love  that surrounds them.

When King David asked God  to pay attention  to his prayers,  his weaknesses,  and his need  for God’s refuge,  he remembered  that the LORD has promised  each of His children  a wonderful  inheritance  in heaven.      David was assured  that God’s almighty love,  mercy,  and truthfulness  would preserve him  in the true faith  throughout his life  on earth.     With that  in mind,  David sang  in Psalm 61:8,

So  I will sing praise  to Your name  forever,
That I may  pay my vows  day by day.

David always sang  God’s praises  while here  on earth  —  and looked forward  to singing God’s praises  “forever”.

David tells God  why  he is willing  to  “sing praise  to Your name  forever”.     David realized the greatness  of all  that God had done  for him.     God enabled him  to fight  the wild animals  that attacked his flock  of sheep.     God helped him  win battles  in war.     God protected him  from enemies  who tried  to undermine him  —  forgave his sins  —  strengthened him  in the true faith.     For that  —  and much more  — David made  “vows”  to show  his thankfulness  by singing  “praise  to Your name  forever”.

David made sure that he was thankful  “day by day”.     We should be,  too.     God has done many things  for us  throughout  our lives.     We need  to remember  His loving mercies  and be thankful  —  singing praises now  and through eternity.

With praise  in our hearts,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  You alone  are worthy  to be praised forever.”

Love,
Margaret
