You  Reward Everyone  According to  What They Have Done

We all look forward  to the “reward”  of heaven  for all eternity.     But,  how are we going about  this life  in anticipation  of getting  that “reward”?

Many are making sure  they faithfully attend church regularly  —  serve on church committees  —  sing in the choir  —  do good works  throughout the week  —  avoid cheating  and lying  —  obey the Ten Commandments  —  do their best  to spread  the gospel,  etc.      Will that  be enough?

King David says  in Psalm 62:11-12,

One thing  God  has spoken,
two things  I have heard:
“Power belongs  to You,  God,
and with You,  Lord,  is unfailing love”;
and,  “You reward everyone
according to  what they have done.”

That should settle it  —  right?     Not really.     The religious leaders  of Jesus’ day  wrongly thought  good works  were the only requirement.     They didn’t understand  what David wrote.     To clarify  God’s word,  John 6:28-29  records,

Therefore  they said  to Him,  “What shall we do,  so that we  may work  the works  of God?”

Jesus answered  and said  to them,  “This is the work  of Godthat you believe  in Him  whom He has sent.”

If one does not “believe”  that Jesus Christ  truly is  the one-and-only,  long promised Savior,  they cannot  be saved  —  no matter  how many good works  they do.     God fulfilled many prophecies  to prove  that only Jesus  can be the promised Savior.     All that God  has done  for us  shows  that we are saved only  by faith  in Jesus.

Have we  “done”  faith?     The “power”  of God’s  “unfailing love”  needs  to be believed.

The beauty  of such  a faith  is that  because  we “believe”,  we will automatically  be doing good works  from loving,  thankful hearts.     Our joy  in God’s  miraculous salvation  through faith  will lead us  to do good.     We won’t be  going over our list  of good works  —  and checking it twice  —  because our hearts  and minds  are free  to simply make  a joyful response  to God’s love  for us.

Serving God  with happy,  believing hearts,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord Jesus,  You have done  all things necessary  for us.”

Love,
Margaret
