Your Enemies  Will Give  Feigned Obedience  to You

This is a very complex world.     It always has been.     Sinful desires lead people  to be deceptive  —  have no respect for their Creator and Redeemer  —  become loveless towards everyone  —  cheat  —  try to sneakily  tear others down,  rob others  of the true faith,  etc.     The writer  of Psalm 66  realized all this  as he praised the LORD  for all His awesome works  in protecting His children.

Along with praising the LORD  for His faithful love,  in Psalm 66:3,  this psalmist wanted  all people  to remember to,

Say  to God,  “How awesome  are Your works!
Because  of the greatness  of Your power  Your enemies  will give feigned obedience  to You.”

That is a word  of caution  we need  to heed  all our lives  on this earth.     As we face  all sorts  of false preachers  in every aspect  of life today,  we need  to realize  that the false preachers  will boldly  be giving  “feigned obedience”  to the Christian faith.     They will use  every method possible  to twist God’s word  and claim it  to be  the true word.     They need  “feigned obedience”  because they want  to tear down  the “greatness”  of God’s  “power”  and try  to make themselves powerful.

Bible verses  will be taken out  of context.     Worldly philosophies  will be added  to diminish God’s authority.     Idolatrous traditions are added  to attract people  and supposedly “enhance”  one’s worship “experience”.     People will be led  to trust  in rituals  instead of the sacrifice  of Jesus  on the cross.     Forgiveness will have  to be “earned”  —  instead of freely given  by the grace  of God,  through faith  in Christ Jesus.     Rules,  regulations,  and rituals  will become requirements.

We must become grounded  in God’s word,  so we can truthfully  “Say  to God,  “How awesome  are Your works!”     We need to be  like the congregation  in Berea,  as Acts 17:11  reports,

Now these were more noble-minded  than those  in Thessalonica,  for they received  the word  with great eagerness,  examining the Scriptures daily  to see whether these things  were so.

Standing in God’s truths  took courage then  —  and now.

Then,  in truth,  we will say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  Your power truly saves.”

Love,
Margaret
