Test the Spirits
There isn’t anyone (except God Almighty) who knows everything. God knows all things, even our most secret thoughts. But every single person in this world lacks all sorts of knowledge. It can be frustrating — to say the least — especially when our lack of knowledge leads to troubles.
There are many times when we can save ourselves a lot of trouble, if we take the time to do some solid, trustworthy research. We already know that Jesus warned us in Matthew 24:11,
Many false prophets will arise and will mislead many.
We need to pay attention to Jesus’ warning. Jesus’ disciples witnessed all sorts of false prophets right from the beginning, so the New Testament has many warnings about false prophets. 1 John 4:1 lovingly teaches,
Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.
These warnings should put us on guard — and keep us on guard. We can only be on guard by studying the Bible for ourselves. God’s word has already revealed all the truths we need to know in order to be a truly saved child of God. So, we need to think and compare everything that is being preached with what God’s word has already shown us. Honest truth will stand up to a full investigation with God’s eternal word.
We need to compare the Old Testament prophecies with the fulfillments in Christ Jesus. When we do that, 2 Peter 1:19 tells us,
So we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts.
Seeing Jesus as the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy, we confidently say, “Hallelujah! Lord Jesus, thank You for washing away absolutely all of our sins.”
Love,
Margaret
