The Fear  of the LORD  Is  to Hate Evil

There are many  who claim  to be true-blue Christians  —  but,  they belligerently remain  in their sins,  are jealous of others,  nasty  to those  they choose to not like,  spiteful,  selfish,  unthankful,  unforgiving,  and rude.     In other words,  they know nothing  about the love  of God.     They don’t even respect  the LORD  or the awesomeness  of His holiness.

Having a passing  “knowledge”  of what is  in the Bible  does not make one a Christian.     Christians  need  to so believe  in the LORD’s salvation  and authority  over all things,  that they have a deep  and honoring respect  for the LORD  —  a “fear  of the LORD”.     When we humbly realize  God’s power  to save  or condemn us,  the Holy Spirit  speaks  to us  this way  in Proverbs 8:12-13,

I,  wisdom,  dwell  with prudence,
And  I find  knowledge  and discretion.
The fear  of the LORD  is to hate evil;
Pride  and arrogance  and the evil way
And the perverted mouth,  I hate.

If we honestly  “fear” and respect  “the LORD”,  we will prudently  “hate evil”.     When we allow  the Holy Spirit  to teach us God’s word,  we will  “find knowledge  and discretion”.     God’s word  teaches us  the vast difference  between good  and evil,  so that we will  “hate evil”  because  it is so loathsome.

God hates  “the perverted mouth”.     Therefore,  Jesus told the religious hypocrites,  in John 8:44,

You are  of your father  the devil,  and you want  to do the desires  of your father.     He was a murderer  from the beginning,  and does not stand  in the truth  because  there is no truth  in him.     Whenever  he speaks a lie,  he speaks  from his own nature,  for he is a liar  and the father  of lies.

Let us  let God  teach us  “the fear  of the LORD”  so we might rightly  “hate evil”.     Then,  in the beauty  of God’s holiness,  we will gladly say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for caring  to teach us.”

Love,
Margaret
