That  Which Is  Of the Heart,  By the Spirit

We can be such worry-warts.     We simply want  to do everything perfectly  —  and be approved of  by God  and man.     But,  our idea  of perfection is not God’s idea  of perfection.

We want a clear set  of directions  and how-to instructions  for becoming perfectly fit  for heaven.     With such an earthly map,  we intend  to find our way  to heaven  all by ourselves.     We set our mind  on paying attention  to all the smallest details  for every rule,  ritual, and regulation.

With all our determination  and good intentions,  we will be the losers.     Losers!?

Yes,  because God wants us  to live our lives with faith,  hope,  and love  —  not rules,  rituals,  and regulations.     Just one reference  that points this out  is Romans 2:28-29,

For he is not  a Jew  who is one outwardly,  nor is circumcision that which is outward  in the flesh.     But he is a Jew  who is one inwardly;  and circumcision is that  which is  of the heart,  by the Spirit,  not by the letter;  and his praise  is not  from men,  but  from God.

God does not want His children religiously following customs,  traditions, and rules.     He set us free  in Christ Jesus.     We are free  to live  and serve  in love,  knowing God loves us  —  free  with the joyous hope  of meeting Jesus  in heaven  and being declared righteous  —  free  to put our faith  in Jesus’ almighty power,  instead of our sinful selves.

So,  we let  our hearts  be circumcised  by God’s sacrificial love  —  cutting away  our pride,  self-sufficiency,  arrogance,  ungodliness,  and boastfulness.     Humbly accepting Christ  as our only Savior,  our “praise  is not  from men,  but from God.”     “By the Spirit”,  God wants us  to simply believe  and trust  in Him alone.

Glad  to take God  at His word,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for Your promises  of forgiveness  and a blessed eternal life.”

Love,
Margaret
