Reserved  in Heaven  for You

With all the troubles  of this world  swirling around us,  it is  of great comfort  to remember  what the apostle Peter  has told us  in 1 Peter 1:3-5,

Blessed  be the God  and Father  of our Lord Jesus Christ,  who according  to His great mercy  has caused us  to be born again  to a living hope  through the resurrection  of Jesus Christ  from the dead,  to obtain  an inheritance  which is imperishable  and undefiled  and will not fade away,  reserved  in heaven  for you,  who are protected  by the power  of God  through faith  for a salvation ready  to be revealed  in the last time.

Our  “inheritance”  is  “reserved  in heaven  for you”.     Any one who inherits something  on this earth,  inherits stuff  that is perishable.     Before we know it,  earthly inheritances  are defiled  by the sins  of this world  —  and they are gone.     There is nothing left  to honestly enjoy.

But,  “through the resurrection  of Jesus Christ”,  God’s mercy  causes us  “to be born again  to a living hope”.     We’re not hoping  for lots of money,  houses that lose their value,  or anything else  in this world  that rots  in time.     Our  “living hope”  is  of a blessed eternal life  with our God and Savior,  Jesus Christ.     The eternal life  our Lord gives us  is actually “imperishable”  —  it can never be defiled  in any way  —  and it will never  “fade away”  in any way.

And,  this is all  freely given  to us  just because God Almighty “caused us  to be born again  to a living hope”  when He worked in our hearts  and minds  as we listened  to His words  of truth  in the Bible.     God has promised us  this eternal  “inheritance”  “reserved  in heaven  for you”.

How can we be sure  we’ll get this  “inheritance”?     We are  “protected  by the power  of God  through faith”.     To strengthen our faith,  we daily study God’s word  to us  —  and rest  in His promises.

Thankful  for God’s grace  in Christ Jesus,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord,  thank You  for Your mercy  in causing us  to be born again  through faith  in Jesus.”

Love,
Margaret
