The Cross  of Our Lord  Jesus Christ

Many people  are embarrassed  to mention  Jesus Christ.     The world  belligerently bullies Christians  by forcefully taking down evidence  of the Ten Commandments,  nativity scenes,  the cross,  and references to Moses  or God.     Yes,  we live  in a world  of God haters  —  but,  so did Paul.     Paul often suffered under the Roman government,  false preachers,  and the Jewish religious leaders.     In spite  of their persecution,  Paul wrote  in Galatians 6:14,

But may it never be  that I would boast,  except  in the cross  of our Lord Jesus Christ,  through which  the world  has been crucified  to me,  and I  to the world.

False preachers  wanted  to become popular  by holding  onto old Jewish customs.     But,  God had shown Paul  that circumcision was no longer  a sign  of being  a child  of God  —  as it was  for the Jews.     Because of all  that Christ did  for us  on the cross,  it is a true faith  in Jesus  that makes one  a child  of God.     Physical circumcision is no longer necessary  —  nor are any  of the other  Old Testament customs.     This made Paul unpopular  to many.

But,  the fact is  that we are all sinners  —  and absolutely no one  will get  to heaven  unless they believe  that Jesus’ suffering  and death  on  “the cross”  has the power  to wash away all  of our sins.

When Paul  put his faith  in Jesus,  he did so  because Jesus showed him  that only faith  in Jesus’ suffering,  death,  and resurrection  gives salvation.     Our eternal life depends  on our faith  in Jesus’ power  to wash away all  of our sins  through His shed blood.

Paul realized  that the things  of this world  are nothings,  so he said,  “the world has been crucified  to me”.     Because  Paul no longer held onto the things  of this world,  he added,  “and I  to the world”.     Paul couldn’t care less  about hanging onto  the stuff  of this world.     Christians have nothing  to be ashamed of.

So,  what is life really about?  —  “the cross  of our Lord Jesus Christ”.     That is  where we gain  the glories  of eternal life.     Glad  for Jesus’ gift,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord Jesus,  Your saving love  is almighty.”

Love,
Margaret
