As of First Importance

As  of First Importance

We all  have priorities.     There are some things  in life  that are just  much more important  than others.     Life has to be  that way.     We should not choose  to continue driving  through an intersection  when the light  has turned red.     For the sake  of our life  and the lives  of others,  we must stop  and obey  the red light.     It simply  does not matter  that we wanted  to get through that intersection.

We need  to have priorities  in our faith.     Paul says in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4,

Now I make know  to you,  brethren,  the gospel  which I preached  to you,  which also  you received,  in which also you stand,  by which also  you are savedif you hold fast  the word  which I preached  to you,  unless  you believed  in vain.     For I delivered  to you  as of first importance  what I also received,  that Christ died  for our sins  according to the Scriptures,  and that He was buried,  and that He was raised  on the third day  according  to the Scriptures.

Many Christians  are getting distracted  from the central message  of  “the gospel”,  which should be  “as of first importance”if we want  to be eternally saved.     Above all else,  Christians  must know  and believe  “that Christ died  for our sins  according to the Scriptures.     The whole Old Testament prophesied details  about the Savior.     We need  to realize that those fulfilled prophesies  verify  that we are trusting in  what is absolutely true.     “Christ died for our sins”.     Now we know  that our sins  are forgiven  through faith  in Christ Jesus.

Trusting  in Old Testament prophesies  being fulfilled,  we need  to know  that Christ  “was buried,  and that He was raised  on the third day  according to the Scriptures.     These truths staunchly assure us  of Jesus’ power  to forgive  all our sins  —  just as all  of God’s word promises  —  Old and New Testaments.

Knowing what is  “of first importance”,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord,  thank You  for the free gift  of forgiveness.”

Love,
Margaret
