From Faith  to Faith

We “grow” in “faith”  as we learn more and more  about what our LORD  has done for us  and what marvelous gifts  He has graciously given us  through what Christ  has done  on our behalf.     Knowing that  by “faith”  we become the children  of God,  and are counted  as being truly “righteous”,  Paul says  in Romans 1:16-17,

For  I am not ashamed  of the gospel,  for it is the power  of God  for salvation  to everyone  who believes,  to the Jew first  and also  to the Greek.     For in it  the righteousness  of God  is revealed  from faith  to faith;  as it is written,  “But the righteous man  shall live  by faith.”

We start out  so small  in “faith”.     When Peter talks  to us  about growing up  in the true faith,  he says  in 1 Peter 2:1-3,

Therefore,  putting aside  all malice  and all deceit  and hypocrisy  and envy  and all slander,  like newborn babies,  long for the pure milk  of the word,  so that  by it  you may grow  in respect  to salvation,  if you have tasted  the kindness  of the Lord.

Unbelievers  are so accustomed to “malice”“deceit”“hypocrisy”“envy”,  and “slander”.     Those are the ways  of the world  —  worldly people feel  they must  use these means  to have some sort  of self-esteem  in this world.     But,  God wants us  to see  and understand  that we are  a much better  “somebody”  —  a child of God  —  when we “grow  in respect  to salvation”.

“Like newborn babies”,  we need  to see the importance  of longing  “for the pure milk  of the word”.     We need  to really want God’s truths  in our hearts and minds.     “Babies”  in “faith”,  who are nurtured with the “pure milk”  of God’s word  will grow  “from faith  to faith”.     It doesn’t matter  that we start out  with a small baby “faith”.     As we “grow”  from a little “faith”  to a stronger “faith”,  we will understand that “the power  of God”  is causing us  to “grow  in respect  to salvation”.

In the awesome grace  of God,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for causing us  to grow  in faith  through Your eternal,  unchanging word.”

Love,
Margaret
