The Greatest

For each person,  the term  “the greatest”  brings up  different thoughts.     Whatever we’re most involved in  seems to be  what we first  think of  in terms of  “the greatest”.     We read about  “love”  being  “the greatest”  in 1 Corinthians 13:13,

But now faith,  hope,  love,  abide these three;  but the greatest  of these  is love.

Some might think of “love” between couples  —  “love” for certain activities  —  “love” for humanity  —  and the “love”  we have for various things  on earth.     As important as these kinds  of “love” are,  there is another “love”  that surpasses  all of these.     Jesus tells us  about it  in Luke 10:27,

You shall  love the LORD  your God  with all your heart,  and with all  your soul,  and with all  your strength,  and with all  your mind;  and your neighbor  as yourself.

Note how loving the “LORD  your God”  is placed  far above loving  “your neighbor” or  “yourself”.    Without a doubt,  loving our  “neighbor”  is a vital part  of our “love”.     But,  loving “the LORD  your God”  must come first,  because 1 John 4:19  shows us that,

We love,  because  He first loved us.

People certainly  are able  to show  earthly affection  and respect.     But,  a truly godly “love” comes  from  knowing God’s  “love”  for us  in Christ Jesus.     Jesus’ “love”  is revealed  throughout the Old  and New Testaments.     It is a most faithful  and everlasting “love”.     God’s  “love” for us  is not wishy-washy.     God’s  “love”  for us  is not  based on whether or not  we fell  into a sin.

Wondrously,  God’s  “love”  forgives us  every time  we ask Him  for forgiveness.

So,  we think  about the “love”  within us.

Ever so grateful  for God’s faithful love  in Christ Jesus,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  create within us  a clean heart  and very right spirit  that we might honestly live  and love  for You.”

Love,
Margaret
