Not From  Deceitful Lips

When someone  tries  to manipulate  other people  in an effort  to get what they want,  they use  “deceitful lips”.     They will say most anything  to convince  a person  to do  their bidding.     They are being dishonest,  unloving,  selfish,  greedy,  and disrespectful  of the person  they are manipulating.

That’s a terrible way  of treating others  —  and,  an even worse way  of treating God.     For whatever reason,  some imagine  that they can be “deceitful”  with the Lord.     Since God knows  our every thought  and intention,  no one is ever able  to deceive Him,  but that doesn’t stop some  from trying.

King David prayed  with an honest,  sincere heart  when he asked the LORD  to protect him  from his enemies.     In his prayer in Psalm 17:1,  he said,

Hear  a just cause,  O LORD,  give heed  to my cry;
Give ear  to my prayer,  which is not  from deceitful lips.

In the rest  of Psalm 17,  David stood  in awe  of how the LORD  would test his heart  with various trials.     Because David was so sure  of God’s nearness  and faithfulness  in every aspect  of life,  he made it  his purpose  to stay true  to the LORD.     He made sure  that he would not say anything  “deceitful”,  untrue,  or wicked.     That means  he examined himself,  to see  if his motives  and actions  were godly  and  in line  with God’s desires  for all  of us.

We all  need to examine ourselves  and our prayers.     Whatever  we pray for  should not be motivated by selfishness,  greediness,  or wickedness  of any sort.     Let us always realize  that we are  in God’s loving hands.     The LORD tests us also.

In the joy  of knowing our Lord  is with us,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for caring  to know all  that is in our hearts.”

Love,
Margaret
