Difficult Times  Will Come

What a promise  —  “difficult times  will come”.     Here the world is  with all its marvelous technology and  —  “difficult times  will come”.     This promise  is in 2 Timothy 3:1-5,

But realize this,  that in the last days  difficult times  will come.     For men will be lovers  of self,  lovers  of money,  boastful,  arrogant,  revilers,  disobedient  to parents,  ungrateful,  unholy,  unloving,  irreconcilable,  malicious gossips,  without self-control,  brutal,  haters  of good,  treacherous,  reckless,  conceited,  lovers  of pleasure  rather than  lovers  of God,  holding to a form  of godlinessalthough they have denied  its power.     Avoid such men  as these.

Paul’s warning  was true  in the beginning  of the church  and is true today.     The last 2,000 years  have been “the last days”  —  and people still  shrug their shoulders  without a care.     Nevertheless,  regarding that long list  of evils,  we are to  “avoid such men  as these”.

That warning  is further clarified  in 2 Timothy 4:3-4,

For the time  will come  when they will not endure  sound doctrine;  but wanting  to have their ears tickled,  they will accumulate  for themselves  teachers  in accordance  to their own desires,  and will turn away  their ears  from the truth  and will turn aside  to myths.

This passage covers a lot  of ground  —  from every false doctrine  in the church  to the supposedly “innocent” myths  of Santa Claus,  Halloween,  and the Easter Bunny.     All  of God’s word  warns us  about false doctrines  and myths,  because they rob people  of a true faith  in God  our Savior.     These “myths”  instill ideas  of fear,  unbelief,  greed,  fantasy,  and the idea  that there is something better  than the LORD,  our God.

We see the media  pushing the “wonderful fun”  of these myths  —  despising  and accusing Christians  of being mean  and stupid  for not loving  the fun times  in these myths.     Many are claiming  to be sincere Christians,  but are loving  the traditions  of myths  over loving  our Savior.     “Difficult times will come.”     What will  we choose  these days?

Knowing  the eternal truths  of our salvation  through faith  in Christ Jesus  alone,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for showing us  Your truths  and strengthening us  to overcome  the myths  of the heathens.”

Love,
Margaret
