But  I Have Prayed  for You

We all need prayer.     We are all born  in sin  —  and remain  sinful  all our lives  —  even as we put  all our faith  and trust  in our Lord and Savior,  Jesus Christ.     We pray  for one another  —  but,  it’s just extra special  to know  that Jesus also prays  for us.

Jesus had a long talk  with His disciples  before He suffered  and died  on the cross  for our sins.     As God,  Jesus knew exactly what would be happening,  so He said  to Peter,  in Luke 22:31-34,

“Simon,  Simon,  behold,  Satan has demanded permission  to sift you  like wheat;  but I have prayed  for you,  that your faith  may not fail;  and you,  when once you have turned again,  strengthen your brothers.”

But he said  to Him,  “Lord,  with You  I am ready  to go both  to prison  and to death!”

And He said,  “I say  to you,  Peter,  the rooster  will not crow today  until you  have denied  three times  that you know Me.”

And so it happened,  as Jesus said.     Peter wept bitterly  over his fearful denial  of Jesus,  but,  he repented  and strengthened his fellow Christians  in the marvelous forgiveness  of our God.

Jesus also pleads  for each  and every one  of us.     When we fearfully deny Him  for whatever reason,  He prays  that we would turn  from that sin  —  and assuredly knowing  His forgiveness,  that we would  “strengthen your brothers”.     Jesus has promised His forgiveness,  so Romans 8:34 says,

Who is the one  who condemns?     Christ Jesus  is He  who died,  yes,  rather who was raised,  who is at the right hand  of God,  who also intercedes  for us.

We cannot even condemn ourselves.     Why?     Jesus suffered  and died  for our sins.    He is victoriously  “at the right hand  of God”  —   and most wondrously,  He  “also intercedes  for us”.     If we dejectedly  condemn ourselves,  Jesus says,  “But I have prayed  for you.”     So, buck up.

Greatly loved,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord,  take our hearts  and let us be,  ever,  only,  all for Thee.”

Love,
Margaret
