On the Contrary

On the Contrary

We people look  at things  in a very earthly way.      So,  we often  do not understand God’s truths.     An example  of that is  in Luke 11:27-28,

While Jesus was saying these things,  one of the women  in the crowd  raised her voice  and said  to Him,  “Blessed is the womb  that bore You  and the breasts  at which  You nursed.”

But He said,  “On the contrary,  blessed  are those  who hear the word  of God  and observe it.”

In our earthly thinking,  we can only imagine  some sort of holy  greatness  in the mother  of Jesus.     There are many  who revere  Mary  just because  she was the chosen vehicle  of Jesus’ birth.     When a woman  in the crowd  considered Mary  to be more “blessed”  than the rest  of us sinners,  Jesus had  to speak  the truth  —  On the contrary,  blessed are those  who hear the word  of God  and observe it.”

Yes,  it was a marvelous thing  for Mary  to have been chosen  to be the mother  of Jesus.     But,  it’s even more  “blessed”  that we all  have been chosen  to  “hear the word  of God  and observe it.”     We  “observe”  God’s word  by believing it  —  and living  according to God’s love  in Christ Jesus.     We are  “blessed”  as we take every chance  we can get  to  “hear the word  of God”.

Every time we open up our Bibles  and study  what God has done  for us,  we are  “blessed”  as we think  on His almighty power,  His eternal love  for us,  and His long suffering forgiveness  of all our sins,  as He strengthens us  in His truths  throughout our lives.

As we take in  God’s blessings  in His word  to us,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for blessing us  with the wondrous truths  of Your word.”

Love,
Margaret
