The Redemption  of His Soul  Is Costly

Some people think  that just because  they come  from a good,  religious family,  they will automatically  get to heaven.     Others think  that because they themselves  have done various good works,  they will get  into heaven.     Still others feel  that  because they regularly attend church  and partake  in church activities,  they will be  in heaven.

These people  have one thing  in common.     They are depending  on something  other than  what God requires.     The LORD  requires  our personal faith  in Jesus Christ  for the forgiveness  of all our sins.     We cannot depend  on anyone else’s faith  or goodness  to get us  into heaven.     Psalm 49:7-8 points out,

No man  can by any means  redeem  his brother
Or give  to God  a ransom  for him  —
For  the redemption  of his soul  is costly,
And he should cease trying  forever —

No saint  or good person  of any sort  is able  to “redeem his brother”.     We’re all condemned sinners.     Nobody has the ability  to even redeem himself.     Redemption  from our sins  must come  through faith  in Jesus Christ.     Jesus is the one who paid  for all our sins.     He alone  is worthy  to pay  for all our sins  because He is sinless  —  holy  —  and pure.     Our redemption cost Jesus  His life  on the cross.

Ephesians 2:8 says,

For  by grace  you have been saved  through faith;  and that not  of yourselves,  it is the gift  of God.

This has always  been true.     In Ezekiel 14:12-20,  God points out  that if a whole country is unfaithful  and gets punished  by God  with a famine,  wild beasts,  a sword,  or a plague,  absolutely no one  could save another person.     In  Ezekiel 14:20,  God said,

“Even though  Noah,  Daniel  and Job  were  in its midst,  as I live,”  declares the Lord GOD,  “they could not deliver  either their son  or their daughter.     They would deliver  only themselves  by their righteousness.”

We become righteous  through faith  —  as Noah,  Daniel  and Job did.     So,  their own faith  could save  only themselves.      Each person’s faith  saves only themselves.

As we realize  we can only be saved  by grace  through faith,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for Your gift  of salvation  in Christ Jesus.”

Love,
Margaret
