As One Who Finds Great Spoil

God knows  that His children  need support  in their trying times.     Besides His Spirit within us,  God has given us  His eternal word  to strengthen us  and keep  in our hearts  to be treasured.     With these truths,  Psalm 119:161-162 says,

Princes  persecute me  without cause,
But my heart stands  in awe  of Your words.

I rejoice  at Your word,
As one  who finds  great spoil.

God’s children  have always been persecuted  “without cause”.     The  “princes”  who “persecute”  refers to any sort  of ruler,  leader,  head,  or commander.     We all have  various people  who are over us  in some way  or another.     In whatever way  they choose  to persecute  God’s children,  the child  of God  “stands  in awe  of Your words”.

We know  that God’s word  is eternal  —  that God is love  —  and that He has been proven  to be faithful.     As we realize  how very small  we are  in the scope  of all things,  it is mighty awesome  that our Lord and Savior  should love us  so much.     That gives us  a peace  and joy  that the world  will never understand.

When the psalmist says,  “I rejoice  at your word”,   that “word”  is God’s special promise  to each  and every one  of His beloved children.     God does not break  His promises.

This psalmist  rejoices  “as one  who finds  great spoil”.     In God’s word,  he has found  a great treasure,  great gain,  and a booty  that he takes  from faith’s battle  in this world.

This is why  we delve  into God’s word  every day  —  and take from it  the treasures  that sustain us  in this life.     Assured  of God’s grace  throughout life,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for staying close  to us  in Spirit  and word.”

Love,
Margaret
