A Generation  That Did Not  Prepare Its Heart

The LORD God  puts a great responsibility  on all parents,  teachers,  pastors,  and those  in authority  of every kind  —  without exception  —  including world leaders.     That responsibility  is  to raise the next generation  to know the LORD  in truth,  to acknowledge  and respect all  of God’s ways,  and to learn  to put their complete trust  in the LORD  for all their needs.

Psalm 78:5-8  describes it  this way,

For He established  a testimony  in Jacob
And appointed  a law  in Israel,
Which He  commanded our fathers
That they should teach them  to their children,
That the generation  to come  might know,  even the children yet  to be born,
That they may arise  and tell them  to their children,
That they should  put their confidence  in God
And not forget  the works  of God,
But keep  His commandments,
And not be like  their fathers,
A stubborn  and rebellious generation,
A generation  that did not prepare  its heart
And whose spirit  was not faithful  to God.

This  “commandment”  applies  to all Christians.     We need  to prepare our hearts  —  and the hearts  of our children  —  to know the LORD God,  our Savior  in truth.     We  and our children  need  to know God  well enough  to put  our full  “confidence”  in all  of God’s ways  and truths.

We don’t want  to be  “a generation  that did not  prepare its heart”  because  we will all  have to face  the LORD  on Judgment Day.     This is no time  to shirk  our responsibility  to live  in the truth  in all aspects  of our lives.     The way  the world  is going,  our children  have to face  many more  false doctrines,  cults,  and forms  of idolatry  than we imagined possible  in our youth.     We are responsible  to show them  God’s salvation  through faith  in Christ Jesus.

As we prepare our hearts  to know  the LORD rightly,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD God,  our Savior,  thank You  for coming  into our hearts  —  and our children’s hearts  —  through Your eternal word.”

Love,
Margaret
