Because  They Are Filled  with Influences  from the East

With the internet  and all sorts  of media  available  to everyone  these days,  it is so easy  to become influenced  by other religions and cults.     Most certainly,  people were influenced  by other cultures  thousands  of years ago.     Cultural influence  is not a new thing.     Different countries  would trade their special products  using camel caravans  to carry their products  —  and in the process  be influenced  by many different cultures.

When Israel  was allowing itself  to be influenced  by heathen customs,  Isaiah 2:5-6  preached this warning,

Come,  house  of Jacob,  and let us walk  in the light  of the LORD.
For You have abandoned  Your people,  the house  of Jacob,
Because  they are filled  with influences  from the east,
And they are soothsayers  like the Philistines,
And they strike bargains  with the children  of foreigners.

In disgust,  the LORD  “abandoned”  His people  “because they were filled  with influences  from the east”.     The Israelites were enthralled with  the “soothsayers”  of the Philistines  —  and would greedily  “strike bargains  with the children  of foreigners”.     They loved exotic products.

But,  they didn’t just love  the “bargains”  of “foreigners”  —  their interest  was much deeper  than that  —  they loved  the way  these  “foreigners”  worshiped  their idols.     The exotic rituals,  traditions,  and methods  of meditation,  seemed very inviting  —  even though God’s word  forbids involvement  with these things.

These  “influences  from the east”  are something Christians  must avoid  at all costs  today  —  if we value  our salvation  in Christ Jesus.     We cannot afford  to mix  “influences from the east”  with the eternal  and proven truths  of God.     Such a disregard  of God’s holiness  is blasphemy  because it claims  God’s word  is not true.     With all due respect, Mark 3:29 says,

Whoever blasphemes  against the Holy Spirit  never has forgiveness,  but is guilty  of an eternal sin.

Treasuring  God’s eternal truth,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You for lovingly leading us  in Your word.”

Love,
Margaret
